January 2025

  • What a year we have ahead! Trishaw rides for wheelchair users, new ride locations and new client organisations, the NSW Seniors Festival Expo; it's going to be a big one.

The fleet has grown

  • Our second trishaw has arrived - a Van Raam VeloPlus, built to provide rides for single passengers using a wheelchair. This will mean we can offer rides to aged care residents and those with disabilities who use wheelchairs,  for whom our conventional 2-seater is not suitable.

We're mobile

  • Our new trailer is ready to go. With space for up to four trishaws, it will allow us to take our rides on the road to meet new passengers and use the many great ride locations around Sydney.

Our History

Cycling Without Age Sydney North has come together because of support and enthusiasm from many quarters, including aged care homes, other CWA chapters, local council and federal grants, Bike North, other community funding and assistance, and (not least!) our committed group of volunteer cyclist pilots and scouts.

  • Final inspection and minor modifications to our trailer before delivery.

  • Pilot Phill takes the trishaw in the Granny Smith Festival, Ryde.

  • We start the month with the wonderful news that the APWF have approved our grant for a trailer!

  • We finalise the trailer design & specifications and have discussions with several fabricators across Sydney.

  • We place the order for the trailer with ASB Trailers at Ingleburn.

  • A packed day of rides at BaptistCare MP, Macquarie Park, for the residents of all three centres, with pilots Phill and Greg sharing the day.

  • CWA Australia committee meeting

  • A slightly reduced day of rides at BaptistCare, Macquarie Park, as one of the three centres was in a COVID lockdown.

  • Our treasurer and chairperson received training in Xero from CWA Australia, who manage and oversee our financial accounts, tax and insurance.

  • Ongoing contributions to the national syllabus for Pilot Training.

  • A full day of rides at BaptistCare, Macquarie Park, for the residents of all three centres.

  • We joined the parade at the Granny Smith Festival in Eastwood. A great morning with visibility and support from City of Ryde Council.

  • Test runs of CWA Sydney North "merch" - t-shirts and mugs underway.

  • Two trishaws (thanks to BIKEast) carried City of Ryde councillors in the Granny Smith Festival grand parade through Eastwood.

  • Took two trishaws with passengers in the Sydney Spring Cycle 10 km course from North Sydney across the Harbour Bridge main deck to Darling Harbour.

  • The "Sydney North" chapter is officially formed, and moves under the governance of CWA Australia. Our Instagram account goes live – follow us!

  • Attended the Bike North Big Rides Day at Bicentennial Park.

  • Interview for the Oily Rag podcast (Bike North).

  • CWA ride morning at BaptistCare Macquarie Park – 5 rides.

  • Westfield Local Heroes finalists are announced, including our chapter captain. Public voting runs from 2 – 24 August, with the winner to be announced on 13 September.

  • BaptistCare Macquarie Park and BIKEast agree to conduct a pilot project, with the trishaw and pilots provided by BIKEast.

  • Work begins to form a CWA chapter to serve the northern suburbs of Sydney, with guidance and support from CWA Sydney East (BIKEast) and the local B.U.G., Bike North.

  • Three Bike North members have already been trained as trishaw pilots with BIKEast.
